BIOGRAPHY

Dominique Bircher, a flutist who grew up in Thun, works as a freelance musician, orchestral musician, and teacher. After graduating from the Thun Gymnasium (high school) with a focus on mathematics, she initially studied in the PreCollege program at the Basel Academy of Music before beginning her Bachelor's degree at the Bern University of the Arts (HKB) with Christian Studler, graduating with distinction in 2023. She then completed a Master of Arts in Music Education at the HKB with Adam Walker, graduating in 2025.

 

Bircher is a prize winner of the Swiss Youth Music Competition and received the City of Thun's Cultural Promotion Prize in 2023. The jury particularly praised the combination of musical talent, a spirit of experimentation, and a high level of personal commitment.

 

As an orchestral musician, she is active in the Bern Chamber Orchestra, among others. Even during her studies, she gained extensive orchestral and solo experience, including as principal flute in the Bern Youth Symphony Orchestra, with which she toured Italy as a soloist in 2022.

 

In addition to her concert performances, Dominique Bircher teaches flute and is committed to innovative, audience-oriented concert formats. The direct connection between musician, music, and audience is of particular importance to her. Since February 2026, she has also been the managing director of the Schlosskonzerte Thun.
